Protect Your Vehicle from Keyless Theft

Dear Resident

As you are likely aware we have recently received two recent reports of theft of motor vehicles in the Wootton area by way of what is commonly known as keyless theft.

Modern thieves can use electronic devices to capture and relay the signal from your key fob, allowing them to unlock and steal vehicles without needing the key.

Simple Steps to Stay Safe

🔑 Store keys securely

Keep keys in a Faraday pouch or signal-blocking box.

Store them away from doors and windows.

🚗 Always lock your vehicle

Check the doors are locked before leaving.

Be aware that criminals can use devices to block locking signals.

🔒 Use extra security

Fit a steering wheel lock.

Consider an immobiliser or vehicle tracker.

🏠 Park smartly

Use a garage if available.

Park in well-lit areas covered by CCTV.

📱 Check vehicle settings

Some vehicles allow keyless entry to be disabled or the key fob to be put into sleep mode.

Quick Checklist

✅ Vehicle locked
✅ Keys stored away from doors/windows
✅ Keys in a Faraday pouch
✅ Steering wheel lock fitted
✅ Valuables removed from vehicle

A combination of physical and electronic security measures will make your vehicle far less attractive to thieves.
